About Wendy

Certified EMDR Practitioner

I offer EDMR Intensives

My name is Wendy Campbell and I’m a psychotherapist in private practice specializing in Mental Health for Women. As a certified EMDR therapist, I often work with survivors of trauma as approximately of one-third of all women have experienced sexual assault, childhood sexual abuse, or domestic violence during their lifetimes.

Trauma can be defined as “a threat that we were not prepared to handle”- Katie O’Shea, EMDR practitioner/pioneer. When a woman has not been able to process a traumatic experience, she may have flashbacks, nightmares, disturbing thoughts, hypervigilance, and have unexplained pain. Intense emotions can be triggered forcing her to relive the trauma long after it happened.

EMDR therapy is an effective and efficient way to process trauma and allow healing. EMDR therapy is evidence based and “can be completed in fewer sessions than other psychotherapies”- EMDRIA.ORG.

My personal style includes a deep belief that YOU are the expert on your own inner life and my role is to empower your knowledge and show you a path toward healing. Sessions are always a collaborative effort with you in charge.

My mission as a therapist is to support my clients as they process their trauma and heal themselves with incredible courage, new insight, and a more empowered self-image. It is an honor to be a part of this process.

EDMR Intensives take place in my office located in Rice Village, one of Houston’s most beautiful areas.

My office is a warm, safe space for us to work together toward a better future.

Psychotherapy is my second career, enriched by over 25 years as an educator and director of an alternative school. Following my passion for empowering children and adults, I received my masters in social work in 2009 from the University of Houston. I interned in an inpatient behavioral hospital and at Bo’s Place - a community grief support center. After graduation, I was medical social worker at Houston Hospice. Most recently, I was at The Woman’s Hospital of Texas, supporting women hospitalized for high risk pregnancy, before opening my private practice in 2013.

In 2016, I learned about EMDR and it quickly became my favorite tool for healing. Adding my trans-theoretical training to EMDR enriched both.
I have been a practicing CERTIFIED EMDR therapist since 2018.

I have an adult daughter and adult son with families of their own. I am grandmother to four amazing boys.I am also a stepmother to two adult daughters who happen to be  identical twins.

My life experiences and studies have provided me with  many tools in my therapeutic  toolbox. Through my years in practice, I have found EMDR to be  a power tool. I have witnessed faster and deeper healing when I use EMDR with clients. I am so excited to provide EMDR INTENSIVES which provide the same outcome but due to the intensive format results in a quicker reduction of distress and unwanted symptoms.

My goal is accompany you to a point where you feel free and joyfully independent!
